How to Clean Your Canvas Prints to Maintain Their Richness

Like any other household item, canvas prints can accumulate a lot of dust over time. The quality of your image on canvas will not be harmed by dust but it certainly dims the richness of your image. To keep you canvas images and canvas photos always look rich in bright colours, we list few simple steps:

1. Wear a pair of clean gloves or wash and dry your hands thoroughly
2. First step is to place the canvas print with picture facing up on a table or on the floor over a piece of clean cloth
3. Next, get a piece of soft cloth and a clean bowl of water. Do not use soap or any cheap cleaning chemicals.
4. Dip the cloth in the bowl of water and squeeze strongly leaving it only a little damp.
5. Wipe canvas print with gentle moves in a single direction. Don’t make too much pressure on the canvas. Best would be to support the bottom of canvas print by hand.
6. Do only a single swipe on every area and then wash the cloth. Do not use the dirty side of the cloth again for any additional wiping – use only the clean part or get another cloth.
Note! Avoid making pressure with your hand on the canvas print.

Don’t rub the surface too much or try to scrub. Make only a light touch while cleaning it.

7. Take the opportunity to also clear the dust from the backside of the frame and hooks. Again take care to not scrub or rub hard

8. Also take the opportunity to check if the canvas print appears well-stretched or has started to sag. If latter, it may be the time for you to think about getting it re-stretched for longevity.

Your canvas print should now start looking sharp, colorful and vivid again!

How Best to Hang Your Mother-In-Law?

Yes, we know you love your Mother-In-Law and would like to put a beautiful photo of hers on a canvas! J The million dollar question is how best to hang the canvas. Here’s a simple guide to how to go about hanging Single Panel Canvas Print of your Mother-In-Law:

1. Select the right location for the picture

A small picture (say 30x30 or 40x40 cm) won't be presented at its best if it is hanging on a large empty wall. You may want to go for a bigger canvas (say 120x120 or 120x100 cm) or a group of smaller pieces for a better result. You should use the furniture closest to that wall to act as a visual marker for positioning.

2. Select the height at which the canvas print will hang and then mark the wall with a pencil just above the top of the canvas frame, in the middle.

The usual height used by museums and picture galleries for hanging pictures is 64” (or 160cm). This is classed as eye level for the average standing adult.

3. Select right hook for your canvas print based on its weight and width and the thickness of your wall

A single hook will work well for smaller canvas prints (30x30, 40x40 cm). However, additional support and a more elegant appearance can be obtained by hanging the artwork on two hooks or nails, rather than one. This should definitely be done for large canvases (anything 60x60cm or above).  A variety of hook sizes are available that are designed to support weights from 2.25kg up to 45kg. However, we recommend you use with the canvas wall hanging system or D rings to help improve the stability of larger, heavier pieces.

4. Determine the right position for your hook

Place the canvas print on the floor, facing downwards, and pull the hanging wire towards the top edge of the canvas frame at two equidistant points. Measure the length between the two points and the distance from one of them to the top of the canvas frame. Note that the wider the gap between the two points, the closer the picture will hang to the wall. Apply the measurements to the wall by measuring down from your earlier pencil mark.

5. Nail the hook into the wall at the pencil mark

Stick a small amount of masking tape over the area where you are about to nail the hook. This will prevent any chipping.  Hammer the hook or nail at an angle to ensure the wall bears the majority of the weight.

6. Check if the canvas print is hanging straight or do minor adjustments

Stand back and admire the photo of your Mother-In-law on the canvas.  Straighten it up if she is leaning too far to one side or the other.
Hope the above guide helps you get the best results and the brownie points! J

Hot to Create Gallery Wraps, Mirror Wraps and Solid Wraps

Once you have chosen the perfect image for your canvas print, you should also take the time to look at the options that are available for the wrapped part of your canvas. You may not initially think that this is a big deal, but it can certainly bring a whole new feeling to your cheap canvas prints, and can make them look even better than they already do. Here are a few options of what you can do to the wraps of your canvas prints, and how to make them.

The Gallery Wrap

The gallery wrap is essentially an extended edge of your image, that gets wrapped to the sides of the canvas. It sounds simple enough when you just say it, but there are certainly a few things that you can do to make sure that you do this process successfully.

For a start, you need to make sure that you are using the same aspect ration that is already used for the remainder of your image. The wrap will usually be a thickness of two inches. Because it is a continuous part of your canvas print, you may need to crop a portion of it in order to ensure that the wrapped edges actually have an image to show. Once you have done that, you can also choose the wrap overlay colour and wrap overlay opacity and play around with those options if you would like for your canvas print to look a little more unique. It is important to mention that the gallery wrap is not the same as the mirror wrap, because the gallery version simply continues the image towards the sides.

The Mirror Wrap

The mirror wrap is different because it copies the edges of your image onto the sides as well. This gives your canvas print a very special appearance when it is approached from the side, rather than just having a simple frame or a black edge to cover it. It also serves as a nice introduction to what viewers can expect when they see your cheap canvas print from the front.

In order to achieve a great mirror wrap, it is best to choose an image which has neutral edges, so that they can seamlessly stretch towards the edges. Although you can also choose to go creative and to make your sides a lot more visually attractive with many colours and objects, most people choose the neutral option because it does not take away the attention from the central part of the image. This means that mirrored edges go best with nature and animal themes, which do not require a lot of precision for this type of canvas wrap.

The Solid Edge

If you don’t like the edges of your canvas prints online to have any of these additional options, you can choose to keep the image in the centre of the canvas, and to choose a different colour for the sides. Your cheap canvas prints will almost automatically come with this option, however, it is also a good idea to choose a colour that you like, and one that will fit best both with the canvas and with the style of the room where it will be displayed.

Vivid or Dark Colours for Your Canvas Prints?

Atmosphere is very important when you decide to use cheap canvas prints online to decorate your home, and even more importantly, when you decide to use them as a gift for someone else. Of course, creating your canvas art could be as simple as uploading an image and sending it off to be printed, but you would certainly lose a lot of creativity and detail in doing so, and because you haven’t checked it properly in your rush, it may come back looking different than how you first imagined it.

Photos on canvas have an infinite number of possibilities when it comes to their visual impact, but what most customers quickly forget is that images look very different when they are blown up on a canvas, and when you look at them on a desktop screen or an actual photo.

Bright images tend to be the best possible choice because they allow for even the smallest of objects to become very visible on a big screen. A lot of detail will come out of brightly coloured photos, and the most vivid colours will also be exaggerated even more. However, you should also bear in mind that this means that the photos on canvas that you produce in this way will also be instantly noticeable and will take all the attention from the room that they are in. On the contrary, darker photos may not show as much detail, but they will certainly be more subtle in an already furnished environment. Always make sure that your canvas prints match the already established atmosphere of the room where they have found themselves in.

How to Take Care of Your Canvas Prints

Canvas prints are truly an amazing and cheap way to make your home or office a beautiful environment, and they also make fantastic presents for special occasions. However, like all other kinds of art, canvas art also needs a certain amount of maintenance and care if it is to last for a long time. It is certainly not a time consuming task, but if you are familiar with the basics of canvas care, then you can also ensure that your print will last for years.

The Sun is not their friend

Direct exposure to sunlight for a long period of time could make your photo on canvas lose its bright colors and become dull and less focused. Direct sunlight has this similar effect on various other objects in your home as well of course, but the effects on canvas prints are particularly apparent and the damage is impossible to restore. Canvas prints are not intended for outside use, specifically because sunlight and weather conditions affect their quality, so make sure to always keep them inside and in an area where the effects of the outside world cannot each your beautiful prints easily.

They may be water resistant, but don’t overdo it

Although it is possible to order canvas prints online that are made with waterproof material, this still does not mean that you should expose them to more moisture than is recommended. Water can really damage the canvas and it will likely make it wrinkle. If you live in an area that is especially troubled by humidity, you can solve this issue either by placing the canvas print in a room that has weather controls through the air conditioning system, or you can ensure that there is a constant flow of air, so that the excess moisture will not have enough time to form a mold on your print.

Do not use any abrasives when you clean your canvas print

Your photos on canvas do not require an excessive amount of cleaning in order to look fresh and beautiful. This is especially true if you usually use chemicals to clean other area of your home, or even if you use special chemicals to clean wall paintings. Remember that your canvas print is not made of the same material as a traditional painting, and if you were to add high concentrations of alcohol or acid to it, you would very likely damage it irreversibly. Start by using a slightly damp towel to remove any dust that has accumulated on your canvas over time. Rinse the towel if it has collected a lot of dirt, and then repeat the process again. Make sure that you do not soak the actual canvas, as it will take too long to dry and it may likely change the shape of your photo on canvas. Leave your canvas to dry in a room that is not humid, and that is pretty much all you have to do to keep your photos on canvas looking beautiful.
